Flexographic machines

The flexo machines are used to print on plastic films. These machines can be of two types:

  • central drum machines with printing groups tangent to the circumference of the drum
  • linear machines with printing groups distributed along the machine

CMZ has done experience with both machines and has managed both the cylinders (or printing drums) rotation and their lateral and longitudinal motion (in machine with central impression drum).


It is not used a specific software for this function, it is enough the electronic CAMS library with its supplementary functionalities (centering on the sensor, profile shifting). Using CANopen and EtherCAT as communication bus with drives, allows a perfect synchronism among the cylinders through SYNC broadcast function.


The movement management of the printing drums is realized through our ISD servo drive or through our stepper drives of the ISD/SVM series.
The information about the movement are sent to the controller/PLC through a fieldbus as Profibus, CANOpen, EtherCAT, Modbus. The drives are programmable and the programmability is realized in IEC61131 language. In this way are managed both the matrix drum called cliché and printing drum called anilox, that is connected to a ink tray. The transversal movement of every drum is piloted by a coupled of drives that work in synchronous way to guarantee the parallelism between the drums.
The drive memorizes the current motor position in case of absence of the main supply.

In our typical flexografic machine, we summarize these main advantages:

  • Optimization of the energetic consumptions: thanks to the possibility to change automatically the current limit.
  • Maximum integration with the central system: this integration is realized trough the fieldbus more common in the industrial world
  • Perfect modularity: the intelligence distributed on the drives, allows the addition of colour groups without modifying the hardware configuration of the PLC
  • Flexibility: the systems are completely configurable by the master and the printing parameters can be saved as a recipe.
  • Very decrease of the costs: first of all in the ISD version, that, thanks to the integrated electronic in the motor, allows the wiring simplification and the reduction of the dimensions of the electric cabinet.
